The OnePlus 5T Review

OnePlus 5T

Since its launch in India, Indian markets have been flooded with the OnePlus phones. They are sturdy, durable and good quality smartphones that do not cost you an arm and a leg. In November 2017, the company launched their best and most powerful phone yet, the OnePlus 5T. This model was launched just after a few months of the launch of the original OnePlus 5.

This phone can indeed be called the company’s best launch yet. Beginning at 32,999 for the 6GB RAM/ 64GB storage model, the phone is a steal.
The OnePlus 5T supports a 6.01 inch HD display with full optic AMOLED in an 18:9 aspect ratio and a pixel density of 401ppi. This large screen makes gaming and the movie watching experience on the phone a complete delight. The larger screen as compared to the OnePlus 5 has been neatly accommodated by shifting the finger print scanner to the back of the phone. Talking about the fingerprint scanner, it is one of the extremely fast and reliable in the game. A new feature that has been added by the company on this phone is the face unlock feature. Unlike the iPhone X face unlock that is a fine amalgamation of the hardware and software of the phone; the OnePlus uses 100 verifications points to take a few seconds to unlock. This feature however can only be used to unlock the phone and reach the home screen and nothing else. This is because the company itself admits that it is not the most secure security feature.

The camera on the OnePlus 5T is something that the OnePlus family is extremely boastful about. The front camera supports a 16-megapixel camera, while the back camera has a dual lens of 16 megapixel and 20 megapixel. Unlike the OnePlus 5, the OnePlus 5T does not have a zoom lens and the 2 times optical zoon feature. However, low light pictures taken with the back camera are way better than any other phone of the same price. The low light feature however does not automatically activate unless subjected to extremely dim surroundings. The portrait mode when used with the back facing camera gives you a wider frame as compared to the OnePlus 5, and gives shaper and finer results.

The physical dimensions of the phone, namely 156.1x75x7.3mm and 162g make it similar in weight and size to the iPhone 8 plus.
On using the phone for a while, it can be realized that the company has indeed paid close attention to details that increase the overall experience of the device. The notification slider on the side of the phone allow you to easily switch between three modes, the silent, do not disturb and loud.  The phone comes with customizable setting and allows the user to change the colors that are displayed on the phone. The inbuilt selection of wallpapers work well with the phone, making it look great all in all.
A plus point on the OnePlus 5 is the reading mode that makes long reading hours on the phone a great experience.

Another wonderful thing about the phone is that at its cost, it offers a variety of colors and types for the user to choose from. The two original colors are the midnight black and sandstone white with the black having a shinier finish to it. However, the company also launched two new models, the Lava red edition and the star wars limited edition. The lava red edition has a shiny red finish to it and is priced at 37,999 in Indian markets. Apart from the color, all other features of the phone are similar to the OnePlus 5T black or white edition.

The limited edition Star Wars edition supports a different color scheme and was launched at 38,999 as the last leg of the movie franchise was released and is for those die-hard star wars fans’. The phone is indeed strong enough to rule the galaxy. The color panels of the phone are customizable and that is what distinguishes it from the standard version of the phone. Some of these features are a star wars logo on the back of the phone, a red alert slider, 10 preloaded wallpapers and other features.

On an overall note, phone is an exceptionally good one as compared to other at its price, comes in a variety of colors, and most importantly, does not burn a hole in your pocket.
