Importance Of Having A Meaningful Friendship

My classmates were bustling about in the class in the absence of our teacher, while I was engrossed in scrutinizing the pages of my book. Suddenly, I felt a presence beside me. I looked up and saw a lean, jovial-looking guy, standing with a chummy smile on his face.  Being amongst the diligent boys of my class, I was used to students coming up to me with requests for notes; and I certainly presumed his purpose to be the same. I responded with a smile and asked, “You are new here, right?” His answer was affirmative. “So tell me which notes do you need”, I questioned with utter surety. The lad got puzzled and remained silent for a moment.  Then with a diffident grin he replied, “Umm…No!  I’ve got all with me.  I just wondered if I could share the seat with you. All other benches have been taken.”  I was intrinsically not a very sociable person but was fine with anyone sitting next to me. “Sure”, I said amiably.

Who would have thought, that this strange waffling newbie I met 15 years ago will gradually turn out to be, “my 4 a.m. friend”?

For a moment, mull over a dreary and draggy life, solely centring on your family, livelihood and mundane routine without the presence of your encouraging, trustworthy and jaunty best friend. Worst of a nightmare, ain’t it?

A family’s importance and love are indubitably unparallel to all existing relationships but it can never be a stand-in for an ally, owing to the moral inhibitions concerned. And so, we all need that one person with whom we can shun off our solitariness, truly be ourselves and talk about all guff on this earth without the apprehension of ever being judged.

Although being an affair, fewer words and more emotions nevertheless, the attributes of a true friendship can definitely acquire some lexical expressions. So, listed below are 5 things that every true friendship seemingly experiences.

  1. You swear by each other!

Faith is the keystone of any relationship. The extent to which you trust each other defines the depth of your friendship. You openly unclasp your hearts, entrust one another with your top secrets and know very well that neither of you will ever stroll into a boogie party without the other. You trust each other’s judgements and never mind the honest opinions and blunt remarks, as your relation doesn’t boast anything like ‘hypocrisy’. You know he is your true friend and judge!

  1. You share an otherworldly connection!

You both seemingly possess the potential telepathic abilities and you can converse without words for hours. Just a few glances and smiles are enough for you two to ascertain each other’s thoughts while others around you simply keep on guessing and finally give up on it. Besides, you don’t even need expressions when it comes to figuring out one another’s true emotional state.

  1. Your friend bears a special place in your memories!

You remember all the Coca-Colas you shared together, fights over the last piece of a grub, the thrill and excitement you both experienced on trying the whisky for the first time, and other such moments that make up your treasure of cherished memories. And, you’ll never forget how he stood by your side throughout the heart- shattering events of your life.

  1. You both are like family to each other!

One of Edan Buchanan’s truisms best defines this – Friends are the family we choose for ourselves”. You argue and fight like brothers, pamper and fuss at times like a mother; and hold the same conviction & authority over one another as that of a father. When you share this sort of bond with your friend, you are left with little reasons to be annoyed with life.

  1. You are like sheaths for one another!

Sometimes you both may cuss, hit or infuriate one another out of your mischievous instincts, but will never endure the same attitude from a third person towards either of you. It’s only and only your right over each other. You know that Bruno Mars’ hit single “Count on Me” perfectly befits your friendship, for you both are always there to protect each other from all that’s bad and deleterious.

Keeping in mind the importance of this special bond, turn this Friendship Day into a special one for your best friend and plan out a movie, a holiday or a fun night out to make the most of it. After all, life in itself is incomplete without a friend. You can never think of giving up on your friend unto your last breath. And to conclude this blatant appeal to celebrate friendship day with unparalleled enthusiasm, nothing seems better than this beautiful quote –

“A friend is, as it were, a second self” – Cicero
